Buick Sail Chinese name: 别克赛欧 (biékè sài'ōu) Year of launch: 2001 Chevrolet Sail (third generation) Chinese name: 雪佛兰赛欧 (xuěfúlán sài'ōu) Year of launch: 2014 GM started producing the Opel Corsa B (Chevrolet) sedan and wagon under the Buick marque in 2001. The Buick Sail came in sedan and wagon (SRV) body styles. It was restyled in 2005, when it was also rebranded from Buick to Chevrolet. An all-new Chevrolet Sail, with mechanics unrelated to the old Corsa-based Sail, was launched at the very end of 2009 and was developed by the SAIC General Motors subsidiary. It initially came as a sedan, but was quickly followed by a hatchback. The Sail was a tremendous success, topping at 279,740 units in 2012. The hatchback accounted for roughly 10% of total sales and didn't return when Chevrolet launched the third generation Sail at the end of 2014 (photo). |
